Nant encourage experienced workers to join business

30th March 2023

Following the Government’s call for experienced people to return to the workforce, water safety specialist Nant Limited is encouraging workers to join its growing team.

Award-winning Nant has set its sights on increasing the number of care home group clients it services, leading the management team to launch a drive to recruit experienced risk assessors and help desk co-ordinators, along with plumbing and hygiene specialists to bring their knowledge and experience to the business.

In his recent Budget, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced measures aimed at persuading workers to work for longer as part of UK plans to boost growth.

Mr Hunt pledged to consider changes to encourage the over-50s who had taken early retirement during or after Covid to return to work, saying he “would look at the conditions necessary to make work worth your while”.

He reported there were more than a million job vacancies in Britain, while one fifth of the working-age population is either out of a job or not seeking one.

Having taken on two new clients with large portfolios of care properties since the start of the year, Wolverhampton-based Nant is preparing to increase its number of contracts with home groups through further expansion.

Managing director Carl Baker commented: “As our business expands, we need experienced team members to meet client demand. We would like to hear from workers who have been in the water treatment industry for a number of years or have taken a break due to Covid.

“We believe their experience in the sector is invaluable and in return we offer additional training and development opportunities to allow you to progress through the business.”

Help desk co-ordinator Sharon Cramb joined Nant in 2022, bringing 13 years’ experience in the water treatment industry with her.

Sharon said: “I have seen the water treatment industry change dramatically during my career and it’s an area that has grown in importance and awareness during this time.

“I enjoy working for Nant as I have had the opportunity to bring my knowledge and experience and apply it to this role. I like that I can share my experience with newer members of the team and help build their knowledge for the future.

“The help desk team are the first point of contact for our customers so it is good to know that we have the knowledge and expertise to be able to help.

“Nant are a great employer, they are always looking to train and develop employees and you feel like you are part of something special.”

Other colleagues to join in recent years include hygiene engineer Keith Humphreyson who joined Nant in June 2022 from BT.

He said: “I worked for BT as a contract engineer up until the covid lockdown when I was furloughed. As part of my role at BT I worked as an engineer, servicing contracts all over the country.

“I can draw on my experience from BT here at Nant. I ran similar equipment and tool stores in my previous role so I’m a very logical and organised person. I am responsible for booking equipment in and out and account for all the tools, parts and kit the engineers need to carry out their job. I’m often asked to visit sites and my training here and from BT is valuable.

“Nant is a friendly place to work. I like that my past experience is useful and I’m able to pass that on to other members of the team.”

Georgie Newport joined the business in 2018 as a business administration apprentice and has progressed to scheduling and communications manager during this time.

Georgie said: “When I first joined the business I knew very little about the water treatment industry so having colleagues like Sharon and Keith to share their experiences and knowledge is really helpful.

“There are lots of regulations and processes to get your head round. The more experienced members of the team have been more than happy to help, answer questions and provide support throughout my time here.”

Nant already works with a large portfolio of care home groups, including three of the five largest in the UK.

The business has been a supporter of dementia-related causes for many years and last year sponsored Wolverhampton Grand Theatre’s Memory Café tour that visited 40 care homes.

Established in 1994 to provide top-quality service in legionella control, Nant is a leading provider of water safety services and products.

As well as care home groups, its portfolio of clients across the UK includes well-known brands such as The Gym Group, the Café Rouge restaurant group and luxury hotel chain Harbour Hotels.
