Sharon joined Nant Limited January 2022 in the role of office administrator. She has over 13 years in the water safety industry. We asked Sharon to share her impressions of Nant and how the water safety industry has grown:
What are the main responsibilities in your role?
I’m responsible for the day-to-day scheduling of all jobs across the business. I work with the risk assessors, engineers and contracts to ensure these are co-ordinated effectively. This is usually done 1-2 months in advance.
I’ve also been given the opportunity to get involved in the HC- One care home project.
What qualifications or training do you draw upon in the role
No specific qualifications are required. You will be provided with in house legionella awareness training together with on-the-job support to carry out the role and gain experience.
What jobs did you have before you joined Nant?
I’ve worked in the water treatment industry for 13 years prior to joining Nant in a similar role. Before that I worked in the travel industry for a local coach company and then later on a travel agents. I got to visit many European destinations, I loved it.
What do you enjoy about working for Nant?
I joined Nant in January 2022 so I’m relatively new to the business. So far everyone here has been very friendly, warm and welcoming. Colleagues are knowledgeable and willing to offer support, that goes a long way to make you feel comfortable.
Which parts of the job have changed the most since you joined the company?
I can’t speak for Nant in particular as I have only been in the business six weeks but I have seen a huge change in the water treatment industry as a whole since I joined 13 years ago.
Water safety has become increasingly important and there is certainly more awareness around the need to ensure properties are serviced regularly, especially if they aren’t used as much due to covid restrictions.
What is the best bit of advice you would give somebody starting at Nant?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Someone from the team is always on hand to help, you are never alone. Water treatment is the kind of industry where asking questions is key to building your knowledge.
What are your interests outside of work?
I love going to the theatre. The last show I went to was Dirty Dancing. I love musicals too. I also enjoy eating out and going on holiday!
What is the weirdest food you have ever eaten?
When I worked in the travel industry as a courier I ate snails with garlic and frogs legs in Paris. I would eat them again too.
Tell us something nobody would know about you?
When my daughter was 11 she used to appear in pantomimes as ‘panto babes’. As she was a child I used to chaperone her. I got the opportunity to meet celebrities such as John Challis who played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses and Lesley Grantham who played Den in Eastenders. They were both lovely!
