Water Hygiene Services That Care Homes Can Count On

Hygiene plays a key role in keeping care home residents safe. At Nant, our comprehensive water hygiene services help care providers to protect those in their care, meet regulatory standards, and operate with total peace of mind.

Working with more than 2,00 care homes across the UK, we’ve refined a relationship-led, compliance-first approach that makes Legionella risk management simpler, more proactive, and tailored to every setting.

Understanding Your Needs

Delivering great service starts with understanding. That’s why we begin every client relationship with a conversation. From our very first touchpoint, our team listens carefully to what you need, whether that’s a specific water hygiene task like tank cleaning or a full risk assessment to identify existing challenges.

Sometimes, new clients approach us with a detailed scope of work. Other times, we guide them from the ground up, typically starting with a Legionella risk assessment, which serves as the foundation for a robust water safety strategy. As our Head of Customer Relations, Matt puts it:

“How can you know what you need to do if you don’t know what the risks are?”

Risk Assessments: Your First Line of Defence

We always recommend starting with a comprehensive Legionella risk assessment, unless one has been carried out recently.

Our assessments are compliant with HSE ACoP L8, HSG 274, and BS 8580, and include:

  • A full survey of domestic hot and cold-water systems
  • Schematic diagrams and floor plans
  • Tailored remedial action recommendations
  • A clear, actionable compliance plan

If there are changes to a building’s water system or management, or if a previous assessment is out of date, we’ll advise a fresh assessment to reflect current risks.

Your Bespoke Plan

Once we’ve completed the assessment, your dedicated contract manager from our Customer Relations Team will get in touch to:

  • Review the risk assessment in detail
  • Recommend required remedial works (e.g., removing dead legs or replacing TMVs)
  • Create a bespoke planned maintenance schedule
  • Ensure the plan aligns with your team’s internal processes and compliance obligations

This is where our tailored approach shines. If your team wants to handle certain tasks in-house, we’ll provide the guidance and training needed to do it right.

Proactive Monitoring and Fast Response

Our monitoring services include:

  • Temperature checks and flushing regimes
  • Water sampling for Legionella
  • Real-time alerts and automated reports through our online portal

Should a Legionella-positive sample occur, our response is immediate. Within hours, we:

  1. Conduct a desktop investigation using your compliance data
  1. Recommend appropriate disinfection or remedial action
  1. Implement on-site solutions within 24–48 hours
  1. Review the root cause and design a long-term fix to prevent recurrence

Ongoing Support with a Human Touch

Our support doesn’t stop with reports. Every care home client has:

  • A dedicated contract manager
  • Direct access to a help desk team
  • Scheduled client review meetings (monthly, quarterly, or tailored to your preference)

These reviews help you stay ahead of compliance issues by proactively identifying recurring risks, evaluating system performance, and updating plans based on what’s working and what’s not.

Empowering Your Team with Expert-Led Training

Your staff are the first line of defence against waterborne risk. We provide:

  • Legionella awareness seminars, tailored to your site
  • Training that explains not just how to perform checks, but why it matters
  • Bespoke sessions for flushing, temperature monitoring, and more

When people understand the reason behind a task, they’re more likely to do it correctly and consistently.

Flushing in Warmer Months: Why It’s Crucial

As seasons change, so does water temperature. During summer, unused outlets can warm up above safe thresholds. We advise increasing flushing from twice a week to 3–4 times weekly during warmer periods.

What does “flushing” mean?

  • Running taps (hot and cold) for 2–5 minutes
  • Ensuring water reaches appropriate hot/cold temperatures
  • Paying special attention to little-used outlets (e.g., spare sinks, cleaners’ cupboards)

We also offer remote monitoring devices to pinpoint which outlets need more attention.

Technology-Backed Compliance

All field engineers use tablets to log on-site activity and upload reports directly to your portal. You’ll receive:

  • Immediate email alerts for non-conforming temperatures
  • Access to photos, schematics, and site-specific data
  • Integration support if you use your own software system

Our tech-driven processes offer you visibility, traceability, and peace of mind.
